Position Overview: CALCOG seeks a Senior Government Affairs Analyst for a two-year term in Sacramento. Ideal candidates have expertise in legislative affairs, communications, and member services, navigating political landscapes and fostering stakeholder relationships. This two-year position may transition to a permanent role if revenue targets are met.

Salary: $95,000 – $110,000

Responsibilities:


Legislative and Regulatory Analysis and Advocacy

  • Monitor and engage on legislative and regulatory activity at the state and federal levels related to regional issues.
  • Analyze and summarize proposed legislation and regulations to assess potential impacts on CALCOG members and develop advocacy strategies.
  • Engage with legislators, government officials, nonprofits, private sector firms, and other partners and stakeholders to advocate for CALCOG’s policy priorities.
  • Prepare written testimony, talking points, policy briefs, position letters, comment letters.


Communications and Outreach

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to convey CALCOG’s mission, priorities, and member accomplishments.
  • Assist with management of CALCOG’s website, social media channels, and other communication platforms to disseminate information and engage with members and partners.
  • Create newsletters, emails, flyers, and other communication materials to promote CALCOG’s initiatives and events.
  • Engage and build relationships with members and stakeholders.


Member Services and Engagement

  • Serve as a point of contact for CALCOG member inquiries.
  • Organize meetings, conferences, and other events to facilitate networking and collaboration among members and partners.


Qualifications: 
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred), 5+ years experience in government affairs, legislative advocacy, communications or related field; strong communication skills; understanding of CA legislative process; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; self-motivated and organized.
