Cal OES is recruiting for multiple Emergency Hire positions in support of the Disaster Response and Recovery efforts in Southern California.

This position will help with media relations, communications, owned media and public information functions, while working closely with the Creative Services Manager (SSM II) to ensure that the department’s communication strategy and tactics consistently delivers messages that motivate people to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.
 
About the job: Under the direction of the Information Officer II, the incumbent is responsible for all aspects of assigned television, radio, and audiovisual productions from concept development to the finished product. This position requires that the incumbent work cooperatively with others, maintain regular, consistent, predictable attendance, exercise good judgment, and communicate effectively, both  orally and in writing, have the ability to successfully apply creative solutions to a wide range of communications and training needs. It is important that the incumbent understands and has a superior working proficiency in using contemporary software and hardware technology for videography, audio and video production, script writing, storytelling, and marketing.
 
Operation of professional high-definition video and audio recording equipment, audio mixing consoles, live video production switchers, live web-streaming devices, and computerized editing and video special effects equipment and software. Location and studio direction, lighting, staging, narration, and music.
 
Establish and maintain production cost estimates, objectives and schedules. Communicate regularly with appropriate Cal OES management and staff to ensure assigned projects are meeting desired objectives and completed on time.

**Emergency Appointments (Ehires) will only be considered. **
  • An emergency hire appointment can work up to 189 days in 12 consecutive months, based on the needs of the disaster. 
  • Positions are paid on an hourly basis, once a month, during the first week of the month following the closure of the pay period. An emergency hire appointment is not eligible for medical benefits or a retirement program. 
  • Emergency hire appointments earn state service and sick leave and vacation based upon actual time worked.
  • Civil Service Examinations are not required for appointment.

JFO –Pasadena - This position is Headquartered and reports to the Joint Field office located in Pasadena, CA.

DMV Pull Program - Participation in the DMV Pull Program is required. The position(s) require(s) a valid Driver’s License (DL). You must answer the questions addressing your DL on your application. Ensure you provide your DL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.

Must be willing to work in remote areas and makeshift office environment.
