The City of Hemet is currently accepting applications for a Communications and Events Coordinator. There is currently one (1) vacancy in the City Manager's office.

**3% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) EFFECTIVE JULY 2025**
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
  • Develops, implements, and coordinates a comprehensive strategic communications program for the City that identifies audiences, messages, communication tools and evaluation measures.
  • Synthesizes City-wide vision, mission, strategic goals and key issues into concrete messages for educational, informational and marketing purposes; coordinates communications activities to foster understanding of City-wide vision, strategic priorities, program goals, and services among the public and City employees.
  • Writes content for and organizes the dissemination of positive and accurate information to the public regarding City business by utilizing a variety of communication tools, including news releases, press conferences, public service announcements, newsletters, magazine articles, fact sheets, radio and television commercials, social media ads, video production and digital storytelling, special event presentations, political speeches, and other collateral materials.
  • Creates and selects content for the City website, advertisements, and mailers; manages the City’s social media presence.
  • Plans, coordinates, promotes, and implements special events produced by the city and manages outside groups planning events in the city; coordinates with City department leaders to plan and implement special events in accordance with the latest safety techniques to ensure public safety; establishes, negotiates, and maintains relationships with vendors.
  • Creates reliable financial reports, invoices sponsors, and collects sponsorship payments on time; tracks and remains under budget with all costs.
  • Manages contact database of press, vendors, event planners, entertainers/agents, and sponsors
  • Coordinates with City’s Risk Management program to mitigate potential litigation related to special events.
  • Serves as liaison with the media, employees, public and private organizations, community groups and other organizations; may deliver or assist in oral presentations as requested.
  • Responds to complaints and requests for information from outside agencies, the general public and City staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: 
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree is highly desirable. 
 
Experience: 
Three (3) years progressively responsible experience in public relations, media relations, marketing, information services, website management, social media, community programs, special events, and administrative analysis. Public sector experience is highly desirable.
